We will be praying for the General Conference in St. Louis February 23-26, 2019. The church has been divided over the issue of ordination of LGBTQA individuals for many years. While the discussion has changed in specifics, the question of the availability of ordination and appointment and officiating at or hosting same sex marriages has remained a splintering topic in United Methodism.
A special General Conference of the world-wide church has been called to decide if there are grounds upon which we may build a new future together, OR, have we come to a place where our differences have reached an irreconcilable standoff that prevents us from doing ministry together.
You are invited to come to the church for a time of prayer to pray from home, work, or wherever you are at the time. We have created slots for every 20 minutes during the first day of General Conference. You are invited to pray, if you can, on the following 3 days of General Conference as well. Please sign up on the Sign-up Genius if you are interested in praying for General Conference during one of the times offered (multiple people at the same time is permitted). For information on the General Conference and proposals being presented, you will find info at: https://www.epaumc.org/resources/umc-commission-on-the-way-forward/
Thank you for your willingness to intercede on behalf of our church – locally as well as globally.
(You are asked about where you are planning on praying simply so that we will be sure to have the facility available if you are coming to church.)
