About COGS Prayer Shawl Ministry….
The shawls (and lap robes) that are knitted and crocheted here at Church of the Good Shepherd are created for many different reasons. They can be used to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, friendship and love, professional and person achievements. Shawls can console those who are grieving, comfort those who are ill, and bring hope to those who are in despair. The reasons to give a shawl are as varied as the people who receive them and those who knit or crochet them. In this time of social distancing, giving someone a shawl is like giving them a long lasting, and sometimes much needed hug.
So…if you know someone who would benefit from the gift of a shawl (or lap robe), contact either Lee Meyer (717-274-2768) or Beth Kapp (717-926-5994) and we will arrange to meet you at the church to look through the shawl trunk, located in the Gathering Area, and select a shawl. We will wear masks and gloves to ensure that the shawls are as “safe” as possible. We will then log your gift in our notebook for future reference.
When you wear or give a shawl, you are connected with many people throughout the world – those who raise the sheep, spin the wool, and transport the yarn to market, as well as whoever crafts it here at Good Shepherd. Please know that these shawls are stitched with love and prayer and designed to be a blessing to the wearer. They are a symbol of how God’s love enfolds them and can provide them strength and comfort.
