The Gretna Gritty is Gretna Glen Camp & Retreat Center’s 8th annual 5k mud run with 20+ obstacles set in the beautiful, rugged terrain of the Mt. Gretna area. In our 8th running of this awesome event, participants can expect to encounter challenges of balance, brawn, bravery, buffoonery and more! With hilly terrain, and challenges new and old – the Gritty has something for everyone. Now in it’s 7th running we will also host the “Nitty Gritty” kids (5-11 years old) fun run which gets kids in on the action with a 1.3 mile fun run. All Gritty and Nitty Gritty runners can expect lunch, medals, adventures, a sweet Gretna Gritty t-shirt, and memories to last a lifetime!
We seek to have an AMAZING event with the BEST course around & Raise $50,000! All proceeds for this event, excluding the costs of participation, will go directly toward Gretna Glen Camp & Retreat Center’s operations. After a challenging year of losses due to COVID 19, the Gretna Gritty is set to have an incredible impact for the ministry that happens at Gretna Glen. With your help, we can make this happen. UPDATE – 3/15/2021: It is our joy that the Gretna Gritty is an outside experience, and this allows us to operate in as close to normal capacity as possible. In efforts to provide a safe event, we will ask you to wear face masks from your car, through the check in process, and to your start line. Once you have reached the start area and are beginning your event, you are welcome to remove your mask if you would like. We are still navigating what additional safety measures we will have in place for the Gritty in 2021, and will update that here.
A Personal Note from Kim & Bob Grimes
Dear church family,
Bob and I have been overwhelmed with your support of my ALS disease. The meals, gifts, cards, visits, and errands all have been a godsend to us and we would be lost without all of your selfless efforts.. This has been overwhelming to Bob as a caregiver, but I have a saying in one of my devotional books.
You can trust God right now to supply all your needs for today. And if your needs tomorrow are more your supply will be greater.
PS.. If anyone likes to cut grass and do weeding, let us know as Bob is currently doing a handicap bathroom and then must build a ramp for me to get outside. We appreciate all of you and if interested in any of these things you can call Bob at 717-821-7535.
In His name,
Kim & Bob Grimes
ASP Trip Updates and Clam Chowder Fundraiser
We have officially received word from ASP that the summer is a go, which means we are able to fully prepare for our summer trip! We currently have 3 Open Slots on the trip–if you are interested in joining us, contact Connor (cfelty@umcogs.org) for more information! Our next planning meeting is this Sunday, April 25 at 11:15 AM in Larry Berger Hall.
We also have a mini-fundraiser running right now, which we think many of you will enjoy! At COGS, Paul Bingaman’s “white” clam chowder is legendary, and he shared his recipe with Mary and Pastor Al years ago! To support our ASP Mission Trip, Mary and PA will prepare 48 Quarts of Paul Bingaman’s Clam Chowder recipe, each selling for $12! Make sure you order your chowder before we sell out! Click the button below to sign up!
A member of the Good Shepherd Family has a need to have substantial work done on the home bathroom which is currently not functional. If you are interested in exploring the project or leading or being a part of a team, please contact Pastor Al.
Special Sunday Offerings:
There are a number of Special Sunday Offerings that we support in missions across the Global United Methodist Church. The special offering this month is for Native American Ministries. Some of the funds collected allow us to collaborate with existing Native American ministries, create programs and support seminary scholarships for United Methodist Native Americans. 50% of the offerings collected stay right here in Eastern PA to support Native American ministries in our own area. Offering Envelopes were in the bulletins for worship on Sunday, April 18th, and are available through the church office!
